About Jeremy

After completing my BSc in Honour Biochemistry at the University of British Columbia, I earned my MSc at McMaster University where I studied gene therapy. I then pursued research focusing on the treatment of Huntington's disease in mouse models, earning me my PhD. During my postdoctoral fellowship, I used C. elegans models to study the biology and genetics of aging with Siegfried Hekimi at McGill University. In 2012, I established a lab focusing on aging and neurodegenerative disease, at the Van Andel Research Institute in Michigan. Most recently, in 2018, I made the move to Montreal, where I have established a lab at McGill University focussed on aging, biological resilience and neurodegenerative disease.

Research
I use a genetic approach to study the biology of aging and the causative factors involved in neurodegenerative diseases, such as Parkinson's disease and Huntington's disease. I am also highly interested in the role of biological resilience in aging and neurodegeneration. My work aims to understand the molecular mechanisms underlying the aging process, and to use the knowledge gained to promote healthy aging and to develop new treatments for neurodegenerative disorders. My lab uses a translational approach in which we perform initial experiments in C. elegans in order to prioritize subsequent experiments in mammalian models.

Interests
When not in the lab, Jeremy loves to be active and outdoors whether it be hiking, biking, skiing, skating, team sports, individual sports or just walking. Jeremy enjoys oceans, mountains and forests and all that Nature has to offer.
